Kickstarter: Storium

Storium
Everybody loves a good story. We’ve been telling them for thousands of years around campfires, through books, more recently through movies, TV, video games and more. Telling stories is what makes us human.

Storium is a “game” where play is centered around telling stories. This novel concept allows people to work together with their friends, using traditional gaming mechanics, to help craft stories in a unique variety of worlds.

While the Storium concept is currently still in Beta, there are some fascinating things that is building towards, including real time play so that you and your friends can chat while constructing stories together. They’re also building more “worlds,” (Storium playsets) that will allow you to construct greater and more complex stories. These worlds come complete with pre-made characters, story concepts, and backstories — all put together by professional writers and game designers. The concept seems to be that players will be allowed freedom, but can use these worlds like tool boxes to construct their own experiences.

Storium is currently being funded on Kickstarter, and while it has already surpassed it’s original funding goal, they’re still building towards stretch goals that sound pretty fascinating, like a Storium specifically for schools.

Storytelling can be such a community experience, and it’s really amazing to see it utilized in such an innovative way. You can find out more at the Storyium Kickstarter page.
