Trigger is an upcoming visual novel from Amy Dentata and stolencomputer, currently being crowd-funded on Kickstarter. Made with Ren’Py, the story is about the trauma, PTSD, and survival.
Trigger follows the story of Wendy, a 30 something housewife whose history is wreaking havoc on her present, and her veteran husband Rick. The games endings are not in the traditional visual novel sense of “good” or “bad,” but rather are about illuminating the nature of Wendy’s own history. The art is unique and distinctive in concept, heavily illustrated and dour, an extension of the story that Dentata is planning on building.
Most of the funding from the Kickstarter will go towards Trigger‘s artwork, which according to the developers is only 20% complete. All of their budgetary concerns and progress are listed in full on their Kickstarter page. Backers who donate to the higher tiers will be able to contribute graffiti for the bathroom walls or letters that will possibly effect the decisions that Wendy makes in game.
As of press, Trigger has 23 days left in funding and is about halfway to their reasonable $4000 goal. Because the game is made with Ren’Py, it has cross platform plans on PC, Mac and Linux as well as mobile release if they reach certain goals. All backers that give $5 or more will receive a DRM free version of the game upon release. You can find more information on the Kickstarter page.
