Who’s the jackass on the floor? Ooh, I’m a ghost.
There are moments in your life where you have regrets. You wonder, maybe, how your life will end up. Will you ever get to swim with the dolphins or backpack through Europe?
List of RegretsĀ is about those moments. The game opens with the main character dead, a grey ghost hovering over him wondering what went wrong. Not with the death, but with his life. Instead of going out andĀ living, he wasted time. And now he’s dead.
The premise is interesting, especially when the character decides to complete their bucket list (or since the character is dead, a List of Regrets) by possessing the other people in the apartment building and having them reach his goals.
This is a Ludum Dare game, made for the 28th jam. The theme for that jam was “You Get Only One,” and it’s an interesting take on the theme. You get only one life, unless of course, you come back as a ghost and inhabit your neighbors. Because it’s a jam game, it’s relatively short (about 5-10 minutes depending on your route) and limited in what you can actually accomplish. It’s structurally sound, and while I noticed some lag there weren’t any issues that made the game too buggy to play.
The story is brief but fun, with lots of interesting communication between the characters. Play is simple point and click, with limited movement and choices. Overall, it’s a fascinating (if brief) foray into life after death.
I would suggest selecting the Post-Compo version, since it is a little more polished and complete.
